Ode to a Left Nipple Hair

I can’t help but admire your tenacity
Your boldness and your bravery
That you would have the audacity
To sprout week after week

You are a sole follicle
In a world where Asian skin is so often hairless
You overcome that obstacle
And still you rise

Forgive me on the day I cut down your black stalk
And lose sight of you in the depth of tile
A black and white floor bespeckled with the hair
Of my canine son, drenched from the cool Autumn air

Thank you for teaching me to neglect perfection
I’ve learned to laugh in the face of symmetry
And though I may have never planned it
I’m happy stuck with you for the rest of my life
